An old carpentry in the district of Gràcia It was the place chosen by Toni and Encarna in 1986 to unleash their idea and create Cal Boter, a family-owned restaurant serving Catalan food, and with the new generations of the family embarked on Cal Boter, they expand their daily services by offering 'Fork breakfasts': Strong fork breakfasts for mid-morning strength, which include dishes such as chickpea gut, pork feet or different types of cod, a good option for a day of walking or cycling in Barcelona, and getting to know the beautiful Gracia neighbourhood. The proximity of its owners and the freshness of the food used in their dishes will not leave you indifferent.
In the heart of Barcelona's emblematic Gracia neighbourhood, you will find the Cal Boter restaurant, a place that I discovered a few years ago and that is without a doubt one of my favourites.
Cal Boter opened its doors as a brasserie in 1986 at the hands of Toni, a butcher in the San Andrés market and whose last name gives the restaurant its name, and his wife Encarna.
Upon entering the premises you notice the family atmosphere that Toni wanted to give her business, marble tables, hand-painted racholas, the counter simulating a fish bowl and warm lights, all the same as the first day, with the only remodeling of the closing of a interior patio to create a small living room and thus expand the premises.
It embodies, between baking and baking, since it is in charge of making desserts, Cal Boter's cuisine defines me as an honest, ancient cuisine, with market products, a definition with which I totally agree but in which I also see the touch of the new generations of the family.
With a good value for money, they have a very complete menu, with more traditional dishes such as pork feet with snails, cod gratin, grilled meats ..., and other more elaborate ones such as potato stuffed with mushrooms and cream of foie gras, one of my favourite plates.
In addition to the menu there is a selection of dishes of the day according to the fresh products of the market. At lunchtime, a menu that includes spoon dishes and other classics such as black rice and fideuá, and recently you can also enjoy knife and fork lunches for those who like to enjoy a hearty breakfast.
To all this I have to add something very important in a restaurant, its staff. The treatment you receive from the Cal Boter team is exceptional, speed, friendliness, they make you feel really comfortable.
I encourage you to visit it, you will surely like it!
An old carpentry in the district of Gràcia was the place chosen by Toni and l'Encarna in 1986 to carry out their idea and create Cal Boter, a family restaurant of traditional Catalan cuisine.
They started doing roasted, roasted and grilled meats made from natural charcoal. The family's butcher's tradition has allowed them to offer a good selection of fresh, quality meats, which come from the butcher's and chicken shops in the San Andreu market. The menu includes sausages, beef fillets, lamb, beef, quails, pig's feet or rabbit among others.
The original premises soon became too small to accommodate customers; the 'friends', as Toni considered them. The restaurant has doubled in size with a cozy lounge for group lunches or dinners. Like the local, the letter was also expanded. Without sacrificing the classic pears in wine, garlic soup, meats and toasts, other delicious dishes were included, such as the 'Gratacolloni' cod - gratin with aioli -, the 'tuna' or spicy snails are very good stuffed potatoes. of mushrooms and cream of foie gras, the selection of gazpacho (depending on the season), pork feet with shrimp or meatballs with cuttlefish ...
Every day of the week there is a classic dish in the selection of the first, such as Tuesday noodles, black rice on Thursdays or cannelloni on Fridays.
Currently, with the new generations of the family embarked on Cal Boter, they expand their daily services by offering 'Fork breakfasts'. Strong breakfasts for mid-morning strength, including dishes such as chickpea and head, pork feet with romesco or cod. A good option for a day of walking or pedaling knowing Barcelona and the legendary Vila de Gràcia.
The proximity of the team that forms Cal Boter and the freshness of theirs, are the tools used to be a cozy family restaurant. to offer you an interesting selection of Catalan cuisine.
Cal Boter restaurant is located in the emblematic district of Gràcia, a district well known for its festivals which are celebrated around the 15th of August; the popular Festa Major de Gràcia, where the streets of the neighborhood are adorned.
In our restaurant we wanted to maintain a decoration that reflects the area we are in: the Barri de Gràcia. The atmosphere is very characteristic of the area, typical of the neighborhood with all the posters of the festivities from the year of the opening of Cal Boter (1986) to today.
Gràcia hosts many of those restaurants that have the charisma of establishments where you eat well and that are restaurants of a lifetime. Cal Boter is one of them. The tradition and know-how of before is reflected both in its space, which is very traditional and inspired by Catalan food houses, and in its dishes.
It is a restaurant that offers a pleasant atmosphere and the possibility of enjoying the best traditional, Catalan and market cuisine, together with careful service. What stands out most to those who know Cal Boter well (and often go) is the originality of its dishes, which, despite being traditional specialties and made with local produce, also surprise the most curious. Tradition still holds many culinary secrets to discover.
A few meters from the Sagrada Familia and the famous Diagonal avenue in Barcelona is Restaurant Cal Boter, an establishment where you can organize celebrations and unique events while tasting culinary proposals of market cuisine in the heart of Barcelona's capital.

Architecturally, it has several important buildings of modernist architecture, such as the Plaza de la Vila clock or the Casas Fuster, Vicens, Ramos and Rubinat and Park Güell. In addition, the squares are the most characteristic distinctive feature of the neighborhood, among which Plaça de la Virreina stands out, one of the most beautiful and crowded where the parish church of Sant Joan is. It is also worth visiting the Plaça del Diamant (known for starring in the famous novel by Mercé Rodoreda, which bears the same name), Plaça del Nord or Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia. If you like to see the films in their original version, the Verdi rooms are the best-known cinema in Barcelona, specialized in this type of film.
